Okay its march 21st 2018. Just got off support call with senior apple tech. Very nice fella. Garth i think was his name. Kiwi guy in auckland.

We were talking for about an hour. Unfortunately we got disrupted buy a power cut. As i was on cellphone the call survived.

But i was able to keep him on long enough to get to this; Apparently highsierra (hs) comes with a new file system. He speculated- paragon 15 is not compatible.

  • Writing NTFS Disk in macOS Hight Sierra and Previous Version July 29, 2017 by macqa Leave a Comment macOS high Sierra (and previous versions) supports NTFS in core.
  • Feb 6, 2018 - Great news for Tuxera NTFS for Mac fans! We've got a brand-new version ready to download with macOS High Sierra support– Tuxera NTFS.

Its designed for the previous file system. Solution- restart holding command r. Format disk using the disk utility. Restart normally. Open paragon. Format as ntfs. (I am doing this as i write this) ( my aim is to be able to put movies on thumb drive and connect to my tv/router for watching) Okay.

That did not work. It is still read only. So i try to use disk utility. I can now select windows ntfs. Nope, its still read only. So outside chance that maybe if I uninstall paragon and use something different.

I Noticed that after installing Paragon NTFS 15 for mac on my High Sierra Macbook Pro. The Bootcamp drive is no longer available in the OSX Start-up Preferences pane. Initially that seemed OK, because you can set the default boot drive in the Paragon NTFS 15 program.

Its real hard to get rid of paragon. So i do my best and give up on the 100% uninstall. Then i look elsewhere. I find tuxera. Installed it- small thing, at the end it had an error with security & privacy settings. I ignored this and allowed it. Normal restart.

I start tuxera. I dont configure anything. I go straight to format and start it on ntfs. I wondered if it was actually working or not because i didnt get any progress bar. So i left it for about ten minutes. Came back and boom! Drive formatted as ntfs.

And i have custom access. Read and write. I put a file on the drive. Went to router works fine. Conclusion: paragon is shit and probably spyware. Apple tech was nice.

With the launch of High Sierra, Apple introduced a requirement that users must manually approve any software that loads new kernel extensions. The NTFS for Mac 2018 installer now easily guides you through this process. What’s a kernel extension? In plain English, the kernel is a program running at the core of macOS. The kernel has complete control over everything inside the Mac.

A “kernel extension” is code that would help expand the kernel’s capabilities. In the case of Tuxera NTFS for Mac, our kernel extension expands the capability of your Mac to write, delete, and move files on Windows NTFS-formatted drives. If you’ve just switched from Windows to Mac, you might be having trouble copying, editing, or deleting files stored on USB sticks or external hard drives you used to use with your Windows PC. That’s because out of the box, Apple’s operating system, macOS, only allows you to read files stored on drives formatted with NTFS, the file system used with Windows PCs. With NTFS for Mac 2018, you can access, edit, store, and transfer files between PCs and Macs hassle-free. If you don’t have a license for Tuxera NTFS for Mac, it’s a convenient, one-time purchase valid for the entire lifetime of the software!.
