I cannot recommend this highly enough. I wanted to export a bunch of ancient camcorder tapes onto my Mac for posterity and editing. I had an ancient camcorder and bought another type of video transfer cable from Amazon (Red yellow and white cables on one end, USB on the other) but it didn't work. So I paid considerably more for this Vidbox and it worked like a dream! Could not have been any easier.

1. Vidbox Video Converter

The key to it is that this has a kind of hub and you plug the red, yellow and white cables into your camcorder (if you have only two of those colours in your camcorder don't worry - you will still have sound and picture, just not stereo) then you plug the other end into the hub. Then you have a USB cable to go from hub to Mac. Then you stick the CD in (or download the drivers from the website if you don't have a CD drive - but you will need the key code) and get the software onto your Mac. Then the software guides you through everything - just click the camcorder picture, put in the length of time of the video and hit go. It exports the video from your ancient camcorder (or VHS player) onto the Mac and saves it as a.mov file which you can edit in imovie (free on your Mac) or import into any video package such as Premiere or Final Cut Pro. It really is a case of just plug it in, download the software, click a picture and then watch it export.

This item makes conversion so easy. It cuts out all the jargon and is a simple easy solution to converting those old home videos. From the set up which took 2-3 minutes maximum, to the end result which it a good quality MP4 which can then easily be written onto a DVD or USB. This did exactly what I wanted, simply and reliably. Minor niggles (not sufficient to give less than 5 stars): 1. There seems to be no way to store user default settings, but the process of setting up each copy task is so quick and easy this is not a real issue. I found it was sometimes necessary to unplug and reconnect the USB link, and restart the app, between tasks, but again this was quick and easy.

Overall the best solution of its type that I've found. And this supplier was £20 cheaper than some others.
